This NFC East between two teams at the bottom of the ultra competitive division features plenty of injuries at key spots. The biggest matchup of the contest may be Commanders defensive end Chase Young matching up against rookie right tackle Evan Neal.
The Washington Commanders have won six out of the last seven games the team has played.
Taylor Heinicke's season is in full swing.
After logging three limited participants last week, the former number two overall pick Chase Young has returned to practice as a limited participant. He was listed as questionable last week, but the team ruled he wasn’t ready to play yet. This week it is expected that Young will make his debut after tearing his ACL last season.
Trai Turner has a knee and ankle injury he’s trying to play through. But, this week in practice, he hasn’t participated. He will need to log one practice before being relied on to play.
Outside cornerback Benjamin St-Juste has been battling an ankle injury that’s hampered his play the last few weeks. He is the 68th cornerback out of 121, according to PFF. Trying to play through an ankle injury could continue to lower St-Juste’s play. He did not participate in practice on Wednesday. So, his game status is unknown.
The Giants lost 28-20 to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving after leading at halftime. The team was without a few key starters; some might return this Sunday.
Evan Neal was the Giants' first-round selection in the 2022 draft. But he hasn’t performed like an elite player during his rookie season. To make matters worse, he is still recovering from his MCL sprain and missed the team’s Thanksgiving game versus the Cowboys. But he’s practiced in Full this week and is expected to play.
Joshua Ezeudu and Shane Lemieux are the team’s left guards this season. They haven’t practiced this week as Ezeudu is recovering from a neck injury and Lemieux is recovering from a toe injury. If neither of them can play this weekend, the team will be playing its third-string guard against the Commanders' front sevens, expecting Chase Young back.
Pass catchers Richie James and Daniel Bellinger are a part of one of the worst receiving corps in the NFL that only has 2,176 yards after 12 weeks. Their starting quarterback ranks 20th in passing yards per game. But the Giants hope to change that and need both James and Bellinger to contribute. James has practiced in a limited capacity one day this week and Bellinger has practiced in a limited capacity twice this week.
The Commanders are favored by 1.5 points on the road and the over/under is 40.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
