This matchup between the 2021 first and second overall picks could prove crucial for the playoff hunt. Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson have faced off just once before, with the Jets coming away with a 26-21 victory last season. Lawrence has taken a big step this season, while Wilson’s path has been quite a bit bumpier.
Second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been limited in practice with a toe injury he suffered Week 14. He’s listed as questionable but the Pro Football Docs expect him to play with full effectiveness.
The bigger concern for the Jaguars is the loss of starting left tackle Cam Robinson, who will miss the rest of the season with a right knee meniscus injury. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor and right guard Brandon Scherff are both questionable with injuries they picked up during last week’s overtime win. Both should play, but it’s a situation to monitor for Jacksonville.
On defense, the Jaguars will be without rookie pass rusher Travon Walker along with left defensive end Folorunso Fatukasi as both deal with ankle injuries.
Jacksonville’s defense ranks 29th in passing yards allowed and 26th in passing touchdowns allowed this season. They will also be down No. 2 cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who remains on IR with a back issue.
The former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson gets his second straight start replacing Mike White, who is recovering from multiple broken ribs.
Prior to replacing White, Wilson averaged 182.7 passing yards in 7 starts this season. He had 317 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception against the Lions last week.
On defense the biggest question mark is star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The fourth-year DT out of Alabama leads the team in sacks (11) and tackles for loss (12), but is dealing with a calf injury that caused him to miss last week.
Given the short week, it’s highly unlikely Williams has recovered fully from his calf strain and he is unlikely to be effective on the pass rush particularly, according to the Pro Football Docs.
The Jets rank fourth in passing yards allowed and second in touchdowns allowed this season, while the Jaguars are 10th in offensive passing yards and sixth in passing touchdowns.
The Jets are favored by 1.5 points at home and the over/under is 37.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
