“Playoff Jimmy” was dominant in the first two playoff rounds, but has cooled off lately with all defensive attention focused on stopping him.
He averaged 38.4 points, rebounds and assists per game in the seven games against the Celtics after averaging 37.8 PRA against the Knicks and 48.4 PRA against the Bucks.
The Heat supporting cast have played well and thus the game plan has relied less on Butler scoring nearly every time down the floor.
He did that against the Bucks, but an ankle injury limited him in the series against the Knicks. Butler should be past the ankle injury in the Finals, but the heavy minutes may take their toll.
In two matchups against the Nuggets this season, Butler averaged 37 PRA.
During the regular season, Denver ranked 8th in points allowed, 6th in rebounds allowed and 16th in assists allowed.
That last category should not be a concern with Gabe Vincent healthy and likely to handle the ball for a majority of the game.
Earlier this week, we detailed Murray’s journey to get 100% healthy after his left knee ACL tear.
He has been tearing up the playoffs and should continue to do so despite facing a Heat team that ranks second in points allowed this postseason.
Murray is shooting 48% from the field and 39.8% from 3 despite averaging career highs in 3s attempted and field goals attempted. He’s also averaging a career high in free throws attempted and hitting them at 92.5% in the playoffs.
Nikola Jokic has been in his typical form, scoring and distributing at will, but Murray’s production should not be ignored.
Aftering averaging 24.8 points against the Suns, he put up 32.5 points per game against the Lakers.
With most of the attention, rightfully on Jokic, expect Murray to have plenty of shot opportunities.
