49ers Running Back Trenton Cannon Injures Neck on Kickoff, Leaves Field in Ambulance

Trenton Cannon, the 49ers running back/special teams specialist, appeared to suffer a neck injury while in coverage on a kick return against the Seahawks. By limited video, Cannon took a knee to his head and his neck twisted significantly. Despite the significant neck trauma, we hope there is no spinal cord injury or paralysis associated with the hit. Cannon's left arm appeared to move as he was loaded into the ambulance, which is a good sign. It is always better to be safe than sorry with the use of a spine board and ambulance.

Update

Cannon has been ruled out for the game with a concussion. That is a relatively good sign, although Cannon will surely undergo tests to determine if there is any associated spine or neck damage.
