We now have more clarity regarding the star Vikings receivers laceration suffered in practice this week and there are multiple reports Thielen will be fine play at essentially 100%. He received four stitches which seems more like a injury that would involve a small cut that is less 1 inch. There was worry for his Achilles and that he might have been able to feel or see the tendon. Structurally the Achilles tendon is intact but there is risk for a potential infection. I'm sure the Vikings medical staff cleaned the wound appropriately and perhaps even used antibiotics. Given the location of the cut, it should be no problem for several reasons. First, he has had three days to heal and he will play with stitches in. When one runs, jumps, or pushes off where the cut it is actually relaxed not stretched. With Plantar flexion of the foot, tension is taken off that area thus the cut will not open up or be an issue. There will be no bloody sock game for Thielen. Only the area will be appropriately protected in padded. With the latest information, this confirms our thoughts over the last several days that the laceration is a non-factor for the big playoff game versus the 49ers.
