Bulls guard and defensive stalwart Alex Caruso will be out for up to 8 weeks after suffering a fractured right wrist last Friday that will require immediate surgery.
Based on video, Caruso likely fractured his scaphoid bone, which is on the thumb side of the hand, and potentially suffered a separated ac joint in his right shoulder.
Assuming the wrist surgery is successful, Caruso should make a full recovery and return in that 6-to-8 week timeline with no further impact on his game.
The 27-year-old broke the wrist on a much-maligned flagrant foul by the Bucks' Grayson Allen, who swung down on Caruso's arms when he went up for a layup, causing Caruso to lose his balance and land directly on his right wrist and shoulder.
Caruso appeared undaunted, remaining in the contest – albeit limited – and scoring 3 points on 1-6 shooting and 4 rebounds in just over 11 minutes after the injury.
Expect rookie guard Ayo Dosunmu and 22-year-old forward Troy Brown Jr. to continue to see an uptick in minutes.
Dosunmu in particular has been a revelation for Chicago, averaging 10.1 points with 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists on 56.3% shooting over the last 10 games.
The Bulls are now without 3 of the 7 players who average 25 minutes a game for an extended period of time: Caruso, Patrick Williams (with a wrist injury of his own), and Lonzo Ball.
Zach Lavine and Javonte Green are expected to return this week as soon as Monday against the Thunder. Lavine has missed the last 5 games with a left knee injury and Green has been out since Dec. 31 with a groin strain.
