The Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith logged his second straight did not practice. As we have indicated in video and post, a calf strain is fairly significant for Smith, given his already loss of muscle tissue including the calf muscle in the right leg. Given the brace that he utilizes, it makes any calf injury even more significant. Please see the full video podcast or video at profootballdoc.com for more information on this. To be clear, Smith is not at risk for further permanent injury to his leg or losing his leg, it's a matter of function and whether he can escape the rush and protect himself. The decision was made to hold Alex Smith out from the second half of the game and we don't think he's going to be materially better in a few days. The team and player are going to need to design a scheme where he can be protected, or they're going to have to go with Dwayne Haskins. We don't see his mobility, or the calf strain improving this quickly, especially given the hurdles here with the previous loss of leg muscle especially the calf muscle from the previous infection, and resultant 17 surgeries.
