The team seems to desperately want Alex Smith to play as they vie for the NFC East crown and that is understandable. Reports are that he will try and practice some this week. We detailed last week why a calf strain will be harder for recovery on Alex Smith given all the procedures, and the previous infection on his leg, where his calf muscle was affected already and already weakened. He uses this unique brace, which makes it harder for a calf strain, which always tend to linger and recover slowly, but in Smith's case, given his altered anatomy, the change and improvement in Smith's calf this week will be minimal. If he can play this week, and certainly he has overcome bigger odds, Washington will have to further revise their offense to accommodate his increased lack of mobility, given Dwayne Haskins situation this is definitely something to monitor.
