The Washington QB Alex Smith will attempt a limited practice today with a calf strain, and we have explained on podcasts, video and post why it is even more difficult for Alex Smith than other players to play through the calf strain. Given what he has overcome it would not surprise us if he tries to play and clearly Washington favors Alex smith over Dwayne Haskins. As long as he can prove that he can protect himself by escaping some basic pressure, he is likely the preferred starter for Washington who was in first place in the NFC East. The loss of muscle tissue from the infection and results from surgery has undoubtedly made Smith lose part of his calf muscle, making any minor strain a much bigger deal for Smith, not to mention the fact that the ankle foot orthosis that helps with the foot drop due to nerve and muscle damage that helps lift his foot up works against his calf, as he returns to try and play. This is just another minor hurdle in Smith's Comeback Player of the Year season and hopefully, he can show enough to participate in Sunday's game safely.
