All-Pro RT Tristan Wirfs Suffers Right Ankle Injury, Questionable to Return

Buccaneers all-pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs suffered a right high ankle sprain early in the Wildcard game against the Eagles and is unlikely to return.

By video, Wirfs was blocking on a three-yard run from Ke'Shawn Vaugn when he had his right leg rolled up on by an Eagles defender.

He remained in the game for the next play, but fell to the ground while pass blocking and was helped to the locker room.

ProFootballDoc, Dr. David Chao, said Wirfs suffered a high ankle injury with a possible fibula fracture.

The second-year tackle out of Iowa will undergo X-rays, but even if those are negative he is unlikely to return.

If the fibula fracture is confirmed, Wirfs is out for the remainder of the playoffs.

The team announced Wirfs is questionable to return with an ankle injury.

He's one of three players in the league to play all offensive snaps in the last two seasons.

Josh Wells is in at right tackle in Wirfs' place.

Update

Wirfs returned to the sideline and was testing his ankle, but seems to be available for emergencies only. His return to the sideline suggests X-rays were negative, but he is still unlikely to return on the high ankle sprain.
