Andy Dalton Practices, But Still Unlikely To Play Week 4 Against Lions

Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday as he works his way back from the left knee bone bruise he suffered Week 2. The fact that Dalton is back at practice after missing just one week is a great sign and indicates that he is progressing nicely. However, based on practice video, he still favors his left knee considerably and has little to no chance to play Week 4 against the Lions. Rookie Justin Fields or third-string veteran Nick Foles will start at quarterback. Fields was listed on the practice report with a right thumb injury, but practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday. Fields injured his right thumb late in the Week 3 loss to the Browns, but didn't miss a snap. If head coach Matt Nagy decides to start Foles over Fields it will have more to do with Fields' inexperience than his health. Fields was 6 for 20 for 68 yards in his debut against Cleveland and was also sacked 9 times.
