Andy Dalton To Miss About A Month With Bone Bruise, Justin Fields To Start

Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton suffered an injury to his left knee in Week 2 and will miss about a month. Dalton's MRI reportedly showed he has a bone bruise, but he avoided damage to his ACL and MCL. With the bone bruise, the best case is he can return by late October. By video from two angles on Sunday, we had feared that he tore his ACL, either partially or fully. He presumably suffered the bone bruise because the ACL did its job and stayed intact, but the end of his femur collided against the end of his tibia when he stepped to go out of bounds on his second quarter run. The bone bruise is good news for Dalton, but this extended absence means rookie Justin Fields is the starting quarterback for at least the next three games. Fields had six completions on 13 passes for 60 yards and an interception in Week 2.
