Although early word is good news from Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy, who says his starting quarterback Andy Dalton likely did not tear his ACL (MRI pending), the mechanism of injury makes us suspicious for an ACL type injury. Hopefully he did not tear his ACL, but there is still a chance of at least a partial tear or a bone bruise. This occurs when the knee shifts just short of tearing the ACL. By video from two angles, it seems that it is a foregone conclusion that Justin Fields will be named the starter going forward. In the best case scenario of a bone bruise, Dalton would miss several weeks. A partial ACL would lead to time missed as well giving Fields plenty of time to shine. Obviously a complete ACL tear would end his season. We know Dalton is tough and tried to return for a couple plays before he sat out the second half. At this point in time, it would be a great surprise if he can return to play in Week 3, even with a best case scenario.
