Andy Dalton Versus Ailing Jared Goff, Expect Defensive Battle

Injury Advantage: Bears defense vs. Lions offense

Jared Goff or Tim Boyle will start the game for Detroit. Either way, don’t expect much from their passing attack. Goff missed last week’s game with an oblique strain that is not fully healed. Throwing will be difficult for him, especially on deep or sideline routes.

Both Lions running backs are fully healthy and should receive a vast majority of the touches on offense. However, the Lions will likely be down two offensive lineman with center Frank Ragnow on IR and right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai struggling with a concussion he suffered last Sunday.

For the Bears, star pass rusher Khalil Mack recently had season-ending foot surgery and key run stopper Akiem Hicks is questionable with an ankle injury that kept him out of last week’s contest. Strong safety Eddie Jackson is questionable with a hamstring injury that has caused him to miss the last two games.

Secondary Advantage: Bears offense vs. Lions defense

Detroit weakside linebacker Trey Flowers may miss another game with his troublesome knee injury. Defensive end Michael Brockers is also questionable with a knee issue, plus the Lions lost linebacker Romeo Okwara and cornerback Jeff Okudah to Achilles tears earlier this season. Lions No. 2 cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu is on IR and fourth-string corner A.J. Parker may miss the game with an ankle injury.

Chicago veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will get the start with rookie Justin Fields recovering from bruised ribs that knocked him out of last week’s contest. Dalton started the first two games of the season and saw action in Week 11. He has completed 65.8% of his passes this season, with three touchdowns and an interception.

The former Bengals quarterback will be without pass catcher Allen Robinson II, who is out with a hamstring injury. Fellow wideout Darnell Mooney is questionable with a foot injury that he played through last week.
