Angels' Gio Urshela to Miss Extended Time with Pelvis Fracture

Angels utility infielder Gio Urshela will miss at least two months with a pelvis fracture he suffered after taking an awkward step running past first on Thursday night, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.

Urshela was placed on the 10-day IL by the Angels, but based on the injury he will be out at least 60 days and would be fortunate to return soon after that.

His injury is not unlike Bo Jackson's infamous hip fracture that forced an early end to a promising career. It's too early to suggest anything close to that severity for Urshela, but anything involving the pelvis is not an easy recovery.

Current Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a similar injury while in college at Alabama, but Tagovailoa's injury included a hip dislocation.

The Angels will have to figure out another solution on the infield with Urshela out as well as Anthony Rendon (wrist contusion) and Zach Neto (oblique strain).

Anaheim called up infielder Michael Stefanic and Andrew Velasquez this week.
