Angels Injury Report: Shohei Ohtani Plays Through Groin Injury Tuesday

Shohei Ohtani returned to the Angels lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox after suffering a groin strain on Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani Injury Update

Ohtani batted third as Los Angeles' DH, going 1-4 in the 4-0 loss.

He is scheduled to start against Boston on Thursday, but the ProBaseballDocs remain skeptical that he will be able to pitch – and pitch effectively – through the right groin injury.

Hitting is much easier than pitching with his current ailment as Ohtani bats from the left side and pitches from the right. If he was solely a pitcher, the dual-threat star would likely head to the 10-day IL to rest the strain.

The 2021 MVP was pinch-hit for in the ninth inning on Sunday after pulling up with a right groin injury running out a groundball in the seventh inning.

Ohtani didn't start on Monday but grounded out in a pinch-hit at-bat in the eighth inning.

He has a 4.19 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 19.1 IP this season. The Angels' ace has allowed two-or-fewer runs in three of his four starts but gave up six earned runs in only 3.2 IP against the Rangers on April 14.
