Anthony Davis Injury: Why Lakers Star's Foot Issue Is Concerning

The Lakers will reportedly re-evaluate Anthony Davis in one month but are bracing for an indefinite absence after the star center suffered a right foot injury on a freak play last Friday night.

There is no clear injury mechanism to indicate the nature and severity of the injury, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.

Davis appeared to suffer the injury in the lead up to his jump, either on the drive or when he planted to jump up for a contested layup against Nikola Jokic.

His foot also collided with Jokic’s leg, but it’s highly unlikely that’s where the injury occurred.

Davis reportedly underwent multiple tests and the injury is “not a sprained ankle, not a sprained foot… something a little more concerning than that” according to Brian Windhorst.

Davis suffered a significant mid-foot sprain last February that cost him the final two months of the 2021-22 season, adding concern to his current injury.

The one-month re-evaluation timeline only represents the next checkpoint and he could miss extended time if a more significant injury, such as a Lisfranc sprain or fracture, is discovered or if he doesn't show adequate healing.

After a 2-10 start to the season Davis has helped the Lakers to an 11-6 record since Nov. 13 while he turned in his most productive basketball in half a decade, averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 3.4 steals plus blocks on .661 true shooting.

Newly-acquired Thomas Bryant missed the first portion of the season with a thumb injury but is in line for a major bump in minutes and opportunities and notched 16 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday night.
