Anthony Edwards Injury: Minnesota Star Likely Out Multiple Games With Ankle Sprain

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards exited Friday night’s double overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls with a severe right ankle sprain that will likely knock him out multiple games.

By video, Edwards suffered at least a Grade 2 inversion ankle sprain when he landed on the foot of Bulls center Nikola Vucevic.

X-rays were negative after the game, but Edwards is likely dealing with significant swelling that will take days to go down.

The injury adds an interesting wrinkle to the playoff race in the Western Conference. Minnesota has lost four of their last five contests and face back-to-back road games against the Raptors and Knicks.

Edwards is unlikely to play Saturday or Monday and will likely be doubtful to play in Wednesday’s home game against the Hawks as well.

Luckily for the Timberwolves, they have a long break before a March 26 matchup against the Warriors. That may be the first game Edwards has a chance to play and the team could have Karl-Anthony Towns back from his calf strain too.

Edwards has been the heartbeat of the team this season, averaging 24.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists this season while averaging a career-best 46.1% from the field and 37.1% from three.

He has been extremely durable in his three seasons in the league, playing 70 or more games for a third straight year.

Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Finals Odds

The Timberwolves (35-36) are +16000 to win the NBA Finals, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

With 11 games to play, Minnesota is currently in the 8th spot in the Western Conference.
