The Atlanta Braves have jumped out to a 21-10 record, which is the best in the national league, to start the MLB season. But on Wednesday, the team lost two players to injury.
Braves pitcher Kyle Wright left the team's game against the Marlins with right shoulder soreness. This is the same shoulder that’s been bothering Wright for months. He had a cortisone injection in the shoulder in January, which is why he missed part of spring training and opened on IL.
Braves CF Michael Harris II left the game as a precaution after jamming his right knee. Harris stumbled after he lost balance from sprinting to first base.
According to our panel of doctors, both players will need a short stint on the IL.
Harris has played 12 games this season, with a batting average of .237. He’s hit one home run and three RBIs this season.
Wright has started five games for the Braves this season. He’s thrown 20 strikeouts with a 5.79 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. He’s the only Braves starter with over four starts with a negative WAR (-0.3).
The Braves have one of the deepest rosters in the MLB, so a short stint on IL shouldn’t hurt the team.
Plus, the Braves have Ronald Acuna Jr, who’s third in the league in batting average at .355.
The Braves have the best odds to win the World Series at +500, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Atlanta is currently -300 to win the NL East.
