Astros All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve left Thursday's game after he was hit on the shin with the first pitch of the game.
The 32 year old was hit just below the knee with an 86 mph slider, then limped to first base before he was removed an inning later.
Swelling will be the issue for Altuve, as there is no worry for a fracture, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.
The area he was hit has muscle coverage so the impact did not directly hit the bone. Houston reported that the second baseman is day-to-day with a shin contusion.
With the All-Star break beginning Monday, the Astros may rest him given their 11 game advantage in the AL West.
However, Altuve may be available for the All-Star game, depending on swelling and pain tolerance.
The 12-year veteran is hitting .277 in 71 games this season with 17 home runs, 33 RBIs and 47 runs scored.
Mauricio Dubón replaced him Thursday and will likely start at second if he misses time.
