Astros Move Lance McCullers Jr. To 60-Day IL With Forearm Injury

Ahead of the Monday's matchup against the Angels, the Astros moved starter Lance McCullers Jr. from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL as he recovers from a flexor tendon strain in his forearm.

The 28-year-old has not pitched since Game 4 of last season's American League Division Series. He reportedly suffered a setback in January but began throwing on flat ground last week.

In February, McCullers spoke about how the lockout interrupted his rehab for the forearm injury.

With the latest move to the 60-day IL, he's not eligible to return until June at the earliest.

Astros general manager James Click told reporters Monday that the move is not indicative of a setback for McCullers and does not change the pitcher’s prognosis.

A return timeline for the 2017 All-Star has not yet been laid out.

Framber Valdez will remain in McCullers spot in the rotation for the time being. Monday's move also cleared a space on the 40-man roster for Yordan Alvarez to return from his 5-game absence while dealing with a non-COVID illness.

The Astros (5-4) open a three-game series against the Angels Monday night.
