The moment this injury happened we indicated Ekeler had a different kind of hamstring, one that potentially involved avulsion of the hamstring tendon off of the bone. Fortunately he has avoided surgery, and in a podcast has admitted the avulsion injury. Even last week when he was seen riding in bike we indicated it would be a longer recovery despite the initial 4-6 week timeline. In fact from the get-go we have opined that Nick Chubb who was injured the same week and was also 6 week timeline would return before Ekeler. Head coach Anthony Lynn has said that Ekeler will return "later rather than sooner" and termed the injury "very serious". Until then, Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson will take over the backfield, but neither has been particularly efficient running the rock, and whenever Ekeler makes it back, he will be a huge boon to the offense.
