Avalanche Star Nathan MacKinnon Diagnosed With Facial Fracture, Will Miss All-Star Weekend

Colorado Avalanche star center Nathan MacKinnon will be out for at least the next 3 games after it was determined on Friday he has a facial fracture and concussion.

The 3-game timeline, however, is underselling the severity of the injury.

We believe the 26-year-old will likely miss 3 weeks, leaving him out of the all-star game next weekend, and up to the next 5 games after the break.

Because of the location of the fracture, the Central Division All-Star team captain will don a face mask or full shield in his return.

MacKinnon was left bloodied after a shoulder check from Boston Bruins' Taylor Hall forced Mackinnon's stick – which he had put up to block the incoming Hall – into his face.

The contact broke his nose, according to ESPN's Emily Caplan, leading to the blood on the ice.

Mackinnon has scored 9 goals and dished 34 assists for the 30-8-3, division-leading Avalanche, who are 2nd in the entire league with 63 points on the season.
