Baker Mayfield Out For Thursday Night Football, Case Keenum To Start

Baker Mayfield has been ruled out for the Thursday night football matchup against the Broncos, meaning Case Keenum will start at quarterback. This is further proof that the Week 6 left shoulder dislocation was "worse" because it was further out of position and stayed dislocation. He initially dislocated his shoulder Week 2 and has played with a harness ever since. Last week, he did return to play for two series, but was less effective than Week 2, when he was 10 for 10 for 102 yards with a touchdown pass.

Mayfield was 19 for 28 last week with 234 passing yards and two touchdowns. We thought Mayfield had a good chance to start Thursday, but it appears the team is being cautious with him because of the quick turnaround. Cleveland gets a division matchup against the Steelers Week 8 and we expect Mayfield to return under center then. He will still have to undergo surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, but we believe he can delay that surgery until the offseason.

The Browns will also be without their two starting running backs and potentially both starting tackles Thursday. Middle linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will also miss the game with a high ankle sprain.
