Baker Mayfield, the Browns quarterback, reportedly broke the humerus bone in his shoulder when he dislocated it in Week 6. He told Jay Glazer that he needs the fracture to heal before he plays again, but we think he can return to play Week 8 against the Steelers. First, because Mayfield returned to play last Sunday when he initially suffered the injury. Medical staff would not have allowed him to play with an unstable fracture. Mayfield likely has a Hill-Sachs lesion, where the ball dislocates from the shoulder enough to cause a dent in the back of the humerus. With this injury, the bone itself does not need to heal for him to return to play. If he uses a harness and brace correctly, he can play through the injury. We think he has a solid chance to return to play on Halloween against the Steelers.
