The concern for his throwing elbow has escalated. He stayed on the sideline watching backup quarterback Mason Rudolph fail to lead a victorious comeback. In the past, even while injured, Big Ben has always tried to lead a heroic comeback. A post-game report from Dianna Russini said he was dealing with "elbow inflammation all week at practice". We have reviewed all of the videos and plays in this game regarding the 37 year old and we do not see a specific incident of trauma for Big Ben's elbow. After a pass and a pump fake, he looked directly at the sidelines knowingly as if to indicate the elbow had flared up again. He stayed in the game initially, but continuously grasped at his elbow and shook his hand. Given this list of facts, there has to be worry for ulnar collateral ligament and/or ulnar nerve issue. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen missed four games last year with a ulnar collateral ligament injury on his throwing elbow. The hope is, a MRI will show the ligament is not completely torn and thus avoid surgery. A strain of the ulnar collateral ligament can affect the stability of the elbow thus irritating the ulnar nerve. Let's hope the MRI confirms no ligament tear, but the injury can easily still leak into the coming weeks.
