San Diego Padres lefty Blake Snell was scratched from his season debut Sunday against the Diamonbacks after reportedly experiencing left adductor tightness.
Snell left his last start in 2021 with the same injury and did not return for the final two weeks of the season.
Certainly it's concerning that Snell is seemingly dealing with the same injury nearly seven months apart. Specific details have not yet emerged about the injury, but the ProBaseballDocs believe the 29-year-old is likely heading for an IL stint.
Nabil Crismatt started in place of Snell Sunday in what is surely a bullpen game for the Padres.
If Snell does hit IL, it could open the door for pitching prospect Mackenzie Gore. The 23-year-old left hander made six starts in AAA last season, finishing with a 5.85 ERA.
Gore made his season debut in AAA Saturday, pitching five scoreless innings while striking out seven.
San Diego could also turn to Dinelson Lamet, who opened the year in the bullpen but was a starter for the Padres his previous four seasons.
