Kevin Gausman limped off the field at the close of the second inning on Saturday after he was hit on the outside of his right ankle by a line drive.
X-rays on his right foot and ankle came back negative according to the Blue Jays. He was diagnosed with an ankle contusion.
Gausman absorbed the hard ground ball off the bat of Wander Franco and collapsed to the grass after taking one step off the mound.
Manager Charlie Montoya said they have yet to decide whether Gausman will head to the 15-day IL and will assess the severity of the injury tomorrow.
When Gausman will make his next start will likely be dependent on the level of swelling in the coming days.
The 31-year-old is putting together a second consecutive all-star caliber season, posting a 2.86 ERA with 100 strikeouts and only two home runs allowed across 88 innings.
