Blue Jays' Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez Leaves Game With Left Side Soreness

The Blue Jays lost veteran outfielder Teoscar Hernandez in the 6th inning after he appeared to suffer an abdominal injury during his at-bat.

The 29-year-old right-hander left Wednesday's win over the Yankees with left side discomfort, a term that could apply to his oblique muscle. It is unclear whether he suffered the injury during the at-bat or when he ran out of the box on the groundout.

Hernandez is another in a barrel of players to suffer soft-tissue and abdominal injuries in the first week, including key Chicago White Sox A.J. Pollock, Yoan Moncada, and Lucas Giolito, Rays' pitchers J.T. Chargois and Luis Patino, and fellow Blue Jay Danny Jansen.

Hernandez, who went 0-3 in the game, was replaced by Bradley Zimmer in the field.

If it is in fact an oblique injury, that is worrisome for Hernandez and the Jays, as obliques are notoriously difficult for hitters to battle through and can cause extended absences. He is listed as day-to-day and the team will know more Hernandez undergoes an MRI.

Hernandez is batting .316 on the season with one home run and 6 RBI and provided one of the highlights of the season when he scored the winning run on opening night in a play at the plate.
