Buccaneers' Shaquil Barrett Dealing With Serious Knee Injury, Could Miss Playoffs

Buccaneers star edge rusher Shaquil Barrett injured his right knee in Sunday's win over the Panthers and could be out for the playoffs.

Monday morning, head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Barrett suffered sprains to his ACL and MCL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, said Barrett could be out longer than that depending on the severity of the sprains.

Medically speaking, a sprain is a tear, Chao said, adding that anytime the ACL is involved the concern is heightened.

Even if the two-time Pro Bowler is able to return for the playoffs he likely won't be effective with the limited mobility, Chao said.

Tampa Bay is already down inside linebacker Lavonte David for the rest of the season as he's on IR with a foot injury.

Weakside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul was inactive for Sunday's game and has been playing through a torn rotator cuff all season.

The Buccaneers clinched the NFC South with the win Sunday and will likely have all three linebackers back for a playoff run.

Tampa Bay is one game behind the Packers for the top spot in the NFC and a coveted first-round bye.

Green Bay finishes its regular season playing the Vikings and Lions, while Tampa Bay gets the Jets and the Panthers in the final two games.
