The fifth-place Chicago Bulls have assigned Patrick Williams to their Windy City G League affiliate, meaning he could return as early as next week.
Williams has been out since tearing multiple ligaments in his left wrist on Oct. 28.
The injury and subsequent surgery had the second-year wing slated to miss 4-to-6 months. A return at the end of March would put Williams right at five months.
Chicago head coach Billy Donovan told reporters that practices and games are on the table for Williams, but a return next Monday against the Raptors is a stretch.
The Bulls have needed William's defensive versatility of late. The team is 3-7 in their last 10 games and currently rank 17th in points allowed per game.
The 20-year-old out of Florida State played 71 games last year for the Bulls, averaging 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists on 48.3% shooting from the field and 39.1% from three.
Chicago (41-28) sits two games clear of the Cavaliers and just a half-game behind Boston for the fourth seed. If the standings remain the same, the Bulls would play the Celtics in the opening round of the playoffs.
