What started as a dream season for the Bulls has turned into an injury nightmare and the latest hit is Lonzo Ball, who Chicago is expected to shut down for the rest of the season, according to multiple reports.
The breaking news from both Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania say that Ball experienced discomfort in his surgically-repaired left knee as he attempted to re-condition for the impending playoffs, leading to the likely decision to prematurely end his season.
Ball underwent a meniscus repair surgery on Jan. 28 to address lingering knee issues after multiple other healing methods failed to improve his status.
Complicating his soreness is bone bruise in that left knee that caused longer preparation for his surgery and has likely contributed to his extended absence.
The ProBasketballDocs said at the time of his surgery in late January that Ball should return sometime at the end of March, but when Ball hit that checkpoint, his ramp-up period was postponed for 10 days because his knee was not responding well.
Ball previously underwent a meniscus removal surgery in the same left knee after his rookie season in the summer of 2018 after a similar timeline. He experienced MCL damage and a bone bruise in that season before he ultimately decided to undergo surgery, which he detailed on his family's Facebook show, Ball In The Family.
Before his knee issues, Ball has been a key versatile component for the Bulls, averaging 13 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 1.8 steals on 42.3% shooting from 3 in 35 games. He has not played since Jan. 14 and Chicago has gone 18-20 in the last 38 games he has missed, dropping them from the No. 1 seed to a tie for the No. 5 seed.
