The Twins breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday as the MRI on star outfielder Byron Buxton's right knee showed no structural damage, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Buxton left Friday's loss to the Red Sox with right knee soreness after a slide into second base in the first inning. The 28-year-old is expected to miss “a week or so,” according to Rosenthal, to rest the sore knee and will travel with the Twins during their upcoming series in Kansas City.
Our team of ProBaseballDocs said at the time that they saw little evidence of a significant injury or potential ligament damage on the slide and that the soreness was potentially caused by tendonitis. The MRI luckily bore out that diagnosis.
Buxton has hit 3 home runs and 3 doubles while driving in 4 runs and scoring another 5 on a 1.058 OPS in 24 at-bats this season.
Manager Rocco Baldelli is starting 26-year-old Nick Gordon in centerfield on Saturday for 3-4 Minnesota.
