Now comes confirmation that Newton’s foot aggravation occurred on Thursday night. Besides not practicing, a report surfaced that Newton is still in a boot. Often boots are used immediately after games as a precaution and for compression. Boots avoid swelling but are removed quickly. In this case, five days later, if a player is still in a boot that is very worrisome. The only advantage Newton has here is that he played Thursday night, which gives him a ten day gap between games. Clearly, his foot seemed ok at the start of the game when he ran on a fourth and one sweep to the right. Late in the game at a pivotal fourth and one, Newton was purely a decoy. A review of the game did not show a specific play of injury. At this point, the worry on Newton has escalated and his availability for this Sunday seems doubtful. However this does not seem like a long term injury.
