The Patriots quarterback will miss the next five days due to COVID-19 testing entry protocols. Apparently there was a misunderstanding of what the requirements were in the US as QB Cam Newton will be subjected to the five day entry cadence process as if he were coming to the team for the first time. This gives QB Mac Jones a five day opportunity to seize the starting job. Previously, Newton declined to discuss his vaccine status, which is his prerogative. However, the implication here is that he is not vaccinated. Remember, players who have not been vaccinated are not able to leave town. Whereas players that have been vaccinated could. This is another one of the protocol advantages for the vaccinated as the league tries to promote vaccination. There is no indication of a positive test on Newton, but he will now need to adhere to the protocols of reentry.
