My review of video from last Thursday’s game does not show any exact traumatic mechanism of re-injury but Newton remains in a walking boot due to an aggravation of a preseason injury. It appears he has a Lisfranc/midfoot sprain. Some people associate Lisfranc injuries with surgery but there are vast differences in severity. I do not believe his season is over or that he needs surgery, but at this point Newton is unlikely to play this week. This should not be a long term injury but after Thursdays performance, perhaps a much needed break is needed, given Newton is coming off of a shoulder injury and now a foot injury.
