Cameron Johnson Nearing Return From Quad Contusion For No. 1 Seed Suns

Three-and-D forward Cameron Johnson is increasing his practice participation, coach Monty Williams said on Saturday, but is not quite ready to play yet.

Johnson, who has not played since suffering a quad contusion during a career-high 38-point performance on March 4, increased his conditioning and was doing lateral mobility drills at practice, but stopped short of doing 5-on-5 work.

The Suns, who clinched a 60-win season and the No. 1 seed on Thursday with their 7th straight win, have been notoriously cautious with players returning from injuries this season. Phoenix sat Devin Booker for 6 games with a hamstring strain in December, DeAndre Ayton for 7 games with a January ankle sprain, and Cameron Payne for 15 games with a wrist sprain earlier in 2022.

The 26-year-old North Carolina product has missed the last 11 contests and figures to return soon during the Suns' final 8-game stretch.

Johnson is averaging 12.8 points and 4.1 rebounds on an NBA-leading 44.8% shooting from 3 in 60 games this season, and figures to be an essential rotation piece for Phoenix's push towards another Finals berth.
