Can Von Miller Play Through Meniscus Injury With Knee Brace?

Buffalo Bills star pass rusher Von Miller, speaking on The Voncast livestream podcast, revealed Tuesday that he hopes to return against the Jets in Week 14 and play through the rest of the season with a knee brace.

Miller also revealed he suffered damage to his lateral meniscus when his right knee shifted and caused him to exit the Thanksgiving win over the Lions.

It will be difficult for the two-time Super Bowl champion to play effectively with a brace and he has a SIC score of 43 for the remainder of the season, according to the Pro Football Docs.

A brace typically limits range of motion, which will likely force Miller to play exclusively on the left side of the defensive line because he needs a healthy outside leg to get around the tackle.

Last week, our panel of doctors detailed why a knee scope surgery to trim the meniscus was likely the best case scenario for Miller.

That surgery could have him back in four-to-six weeks, in time for the end of the regular season and playoffs.

It's possible he needs a meniscus repair, which would keep him out three-to-four months. Miller suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in 2013, which likely saved him from a torn ACL in the Thanksgiving game.

Surgery is not the only option in the short term for the 8-time Pro Bowler, but it will be difficult and likely painful to play through this knee injury for the rest of the season, according to the Pro Football Docs.

Miller ranks third in the NFL in quarterback pressures (38) and leads his team with 8 sacks. It would be a pleasant surprise if he can be effective during the stretch run playing with a knee brace.

A.J. Epenesa and Greg Rousseau, who are second and third in sacks on the team, have dealt with ankle injuries recently but are full go for Thursday night’s contest against the Patriots.

Buffalo Bills Super Bowl LVII Odds

The Bills (8-3) have the second best odds to win Super Bowl LVII at +450, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Chiefs are at +430.

Buffalo is a 4-point favorite against the Patriots this Thursday and the over/under is 43.5.
