Cardinals starter Steven Matz left Sunday's start after just four pitches with an apparent left shoulder injury.
Steven Matz Injury Update
Matz appeared to clutch his shoulder to his side after delivering his fourth pitch against the Pirates. He left the game and was replaced by Angel Rondón.
The team reported that Matz left after experiencing left shoulder stiffness. It's not yet clear if he'll require a trip to the IL.
Matz experienced left shoulder bursitis in late August 2020. He missed three starts, then returned Sept. 18 and finished the season.
He has a 4.25 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP across 9 starts for the Cardinals this season.
