The Cardinals placed pass rusher Chandler Jones on the reserve COVID list Tuesday after he tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated, which means he needs two consecutive negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be reactivated, as long as he does not have symptoms. Otherwise he needs to wait 10 days.
At this point it seems very unlikely that he will play this week for several reasons. It has been proven difficult to get two consecutive negative tests, assuming the original was not a false positive. Of course if he had any symptoms, he would not be able to return anyways. But given the away game in Cleveland, West Coast teams typically travel on Friday, which would mean he would have limited opportunities to get his PCR test back before the team leaves. One cannot rejoin the team, even for a flight, before coming off the COVID list.
Of course, if he were to test negative two consecutive times the Cardinals can arrange for Saturday transportation, just for Jones, or as a precaution fly him out privately on Friday. However, given the appearance on the COVID list on Tuesday and the departure on Friday there is little chance Jones will be with the team and playing this Sunday against the Browns. The good news is he should only miss one week, as his 10 days will be up before the Week 7 contest against the Texans.
