Darby has been fraught with injury in the last several years. In his first year with the Eagles (2017), Darby suffered a subtalar dislocation and made an excellent recovery after missing half of the season when many though his season was over. In 2018, the former Buffalo Bill tore his right ACL and we talked about how it would be hard for him to have a successful 2019 season. He indeed played poorly in the beginning of the season while treating hip and muscle issues likely secondary to the ACL injury. Many may think Darby is a significant injury risk but we feel the opposite. He has already signed a one year deal with the Redskins and this may work in his favor. Given his injury history, he certainly wasn't going to receive a long term deal but a one year prove it deal could help him land a favorable contract in 2021 as the second year off ACL reconstruction surgery is always much better than for an athlete. Multiple defensive backs have played better in the second year after initial surgery going all the way back to Darrelle Revis after he left the Jets and landed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one year deal. After having a successful campaign, he rebounded and signed a multi year deal with the Patriots going on to win a Superbowl. Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook most recently showed how well you can play in the second year coming off an ACL surgery.
