Seahawks running back Chris Carson will have season-ending neck surgery, the team announced on Friday. Carson suffered the injury in Week 4 vs the 49ers. He was placed on IR on Oct. 15 and designated to return on Nov. 10, but failed to make it to team practice, and did not make the progress the team was hoping for, according to Pete Carroll.
We believed from the beginning that his recovery would not be reliable, based on the lack of details given out by Seattle, especially once there was a potential nerve issue involved. He will likely undergo a discectomy and fusion, and he projects to be fine for next season. The 27-year-old rushed 54 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns before the injury. Alex Collins, who has rushed for 268 yards and one touchdown since he took over as a starter in Week 5, will continue to serve as the lead back, with Travis Homer and Rashaad Penny providing support.
