Chris Godwin Faces ACL Surgery, Won't Be Effective Until Late Next Season

Chris Godwin, the Buccaneers star receiver, reportedly suffered a torn ACL and is out for the rest of the season.

Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, projects that Godwin will likely not be able to play effectively until late next season, much like the recovery Odell Beckham Jr. faced after tearing his ACL in Week 7 last season.

Godwin relies on his cutting ability and route running to be effective, meaning he will need to be close to 100% healthy before having the same impact as this season, Chao said.

Initial video of the injury showed Godwin suffered a knee hyperextension and MCL sprain, Chao said. MRI results Monday revealed the torn ACL.

The 25-year-old, who was playing on a franchise tag contract and is a free agent this offseason, finishes the year with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and 5 touchdowns.

His 98 catches through 14 games were the third most in the league this season and Godwin's most since 2019, when he had 86 catches in 14 games.
