The Jets tight end was just returning to play after a suspension and a hamstring issue. Now, he is out with a rib fracture, which apparently was discovered on a CT scan and not x-ray. With this upper rib fracture, there is risk of pneumothorax (partially collpased lung). The location and severity of fracture likely will have him out for several weeks. One cannot be sure, but it could have happened on his one catch in the first quarter. Herndon has been placed on injured reserve effectively ending his season.
