Golden State Warriors' Chris Paul suffered a fractured left hand during the Warriors win 113-109 against the Detroit Pistons on Fri 5 Jan.
It was announced by the Warriors that surgery will be required and is scheduled this week. Surgery will involve inserting a plate and screws into the hand.
Warriors star Stephen Curry said “I just feel bad for him. I know he's been through some hand stuff in his career”. “We are trying to find a groove as a team ... and he's been such a huge part of that.”
Since joining the Warriors Paul has been key part of the Golden State rotation, averaging 8.9 points, 7.2 assists in 27.6 minutes per game.
According to the Pro Basketball Doc's at Sports Injury Central, it is more likely Paul will return in 6 weeks (late February).
Over his 19-year career, Paul has grappled with numerous injuries, with 11 to his hands - five on his left and six on his right. Notably, he underwent four surgeries on his hand or wrist, the latest being on his left wrist following the 2021 NBA Finals with the Phoenix Suns.
Paul's absence will affect the team's rotations and shot-creation load off Stephen Curry.
The Warriors are currently under .500 and just outside a spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament so Paul's absence will hurt.
However Paul should be able to return to help the Warriors fight for a play-off appearance in the 2nd half of the season. In Paul's absence, Brandin Podziemski, Corey Joseph and Moses Moody are most likely to have increased court time.
