Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers star running back, left Thursday's game in the second quarter with a left hamstring strain. The fifth-year player has been ruled out after suffering the injury on a two-yard run in the red zone against the Texans. Hamstring severity is hard to judge by video, but McCaffrey asked out of the game, was ruled out immediately and went to the locker room. However, we always judge the injury mechanism rather than the reaction. The hope is the Stanford alum didn't suffer a significant injury and the Panthers are just being cautious with him. Ankle, shoulder and quad injuries cost the fantasy stud all but three games last season. He came into Week 3 with 170 rushing yards and 154 receiving yards, plus 1 rushing touchdown.
Update
Head Coach Matt Rhule said after the game that McCaffrey suffered a hamstring strain. A strain always means the hamstring is torn, but the hope is for a partial tear not a full tear. McCaffrey will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the tear. He will likely miss the Panthers' Week 4 game against the Cowboys but we hope he can avoid an IR stint.
