Christian McCaffrey Shoulder Injury Will Cause Him To Miss Time

Despite speculation of a rib issue, he appears to have suffered an injury related to his clavicle when he went down on his right shoulder. There is no fracture, but the suspicion is for an AC joint or SC joint injury at the end of the collarbones. He did return to play for one play but left soon after. This is something he could try and play through, and players often do with an injection. Undoubtedly McCaffrey will want to play, but given the Panthers conservative nature towards their star running back evidenced by sitting him since Week 2 with his high ankle sprain, it seems they will bring him back slowly. The high ankle did very well, and he had 28 touches for 151 yards and two touchdowns but the 27th touch resulted in the injury and he's likely to miss practice time. If this were a playoff or important game we are quite sure McCaffrey would play, but given the conservative nature the Panthers have towards the long term future of their star that brings into question his availability for next week, and for several weeks beyond. Mike Davis was solid in lieu of McCaffrey, and is poised to take over the role once again. Expect McCaffrey to miss the next few games as the Panthers have no reason to rush back their franchise star.
