Christian McCaffrey Suffers Inversion Ankle Sprain, Gets Bye Week to Rest

Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey suffered an inversion left ankle sprain in the Week 12 loss to the Dolphins. By video, the 25-year-old turned his left ankle on a three-yard run early in the second quarter. McCaffrey remained in the game for the next two drives, but was absent for a crucial drive at the end of the first half. After the injury play, he had three rushes for -2 yards. He did not touch the ball in the second half, but was on the field for a handful of plays.

Carolina gets a bye Week 13, then plays the Atlanta Falcons at home in Week 14. McCaffrey was seen in a walking boot after the game, but we believe that was used as a precaution to take stress off of the ankle. McCaffrey has a solid chance to play against the Falcons and should be able to handle work in the rushing and passing games.
