Christian Yelich Placed on IL

The Milwaukee Brewers placed former MVP Christian Yelich on the 10-day IL on Tuesday due to a lower back strain. Yelich left last Friday’s game in the second inning because of lower back discomfort.

According to Pro Baseball Doc Yelich is likely to be out longer than his 10-day stint on the IL. The team is likely to be cautious with Yelich as he has dealt with back issues in the past.

Yelich has been dealing with nagging back injuries since playing with the Miami Marlins. Yelich missed 11 games in September of last season due to a lower back strain.

“I’ve had times where I didn’t think it was bad and it ended up taking a long time, and I’ve had times where I thought it was bad and it ended up being quick,” Yelich said. “I don’t have answers as far as a timeline. It’s not even really locked up. I don’t really know how to describe it. They’re a little different every time.”

Yelich can return to the Brewers' roster as soon as April 23. This season he is batting .333 with a 1.166 OPS, five homers and 11 RBIs.
