Second-year running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire did not practice for the second straight day and was ruled out for Sunday's Wildcard game against the Steelers.
Edwards-Helaire was limited in practice Wednesday with a shoulder injury he suffered Week 16, but the shoulder reportedly did not respond well.
Early in the week, the ProFootballDocs anticipated that the 22-year-old would be able to play against the Steelers although he would likely need an injection to numb the pain.
Now backup running back Darrel Williams will likely start despite a mild toe injury he picked up last week.
Rookie running back Derrick Gore is also in the mix for carries and receiving duties with Edwards-Helaire out.
If the Chiefs move on to the Divisional round, the ProFootballDocs anticipate Edwards-Helaire returning in that contest.
